Oluwagbenga Orimoogunje is a Nigerian biogeographer and landscape ecologist whose research focuses on land use utilization and natural resource management including its evolution, dynamics and conservation with particular focus on how to understand the processes that contribute to improved land resource management. Orimoogunje obtained B. Sc. (Hons.), M. Sc., and Ph. D from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria; and Postgraduate Diploma in Geoinformation Production and Management from Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He was appointed lecturer I, Department of Geography, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where he became a Reader in Geography in 2013.
His research involves interdisciplinary science that combine detailed field studies, field and laboratory experimentation, sometimes with social science to examine links between environmental resource variability and human’s response. His research has significant implication for understanding and responding to the impacts of environmental change variability on forest resource ecosystems, riparian ecology, the management/conservation of tropical forest ecosystems. He has worked extensively on natural resource management and planning issues in Southwestern Nigeria, dealing with the challenge of incorporating information on land use dynamics into natural area management and planning. The findings have been published in numerous reputable international and local journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He has also mentored 15 M.Sc. and 3 PhD graduates. Orimoogunje is a member of the group that advocated for a theocentric approach to environmental sustainability.
